Instapaper logo5/8/2023 ![]() After being acquired by Pinterest, the service ditched monthly subscriptions and started offering its Premium, ad-free service free for everyone. Pinterest purchased Instapaper in 2016, three years after New York-based startup studio Betaworks acquired the app from its original creator, Marco Arment. First launched in 2008, the app has gone through various business models and several different owners. Instapaper, for the uninitiated, is a bookmarking service that lets you save articles and videos to read or watch later on your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or Kindle. In a Monday blog post (Opens in a new window), the read-it-later app announced a parting of ways with its current owner, meaning the service is independent once again. Instapaper is saying goodbye to Pinterest.
